Really Good Cheese Scones

Makes: 12 Scones Ready in: 35 minutes

A really good cheese scone is good fast food, make them up in bulk and freeze for the lunch boxes, or bung a batch together to serve with soup, toss into the picnic basket or toast em and have for breakfast. They're also a great base to which you can add other flavours or little bits of leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 2 full cups self raising flour
  • 2 cups grated cheese, plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • Optional additions - see tip below

Method

Combine the flour, cheese and any other seasoning ingredients you fancy (see cooks tips) and mix well.

Add the milk – the dough will be quite wet, shape into small loaves or balls and bake at 200ºC for 10 minutes or until well risen and crusty. Serve warm 10 minutes or until well risen and crusty. Serve warm or cold

Tip

Other additions could include chopped sundried tomatoes, chorizo, roasted capsicum feta, fresh or dried herbs – Or spread some chutney or pesto over the top and add a sprinkle of cheese before baking.
